The Truth Is... (Melbourne Celebrant)

Updated: Apr 28, 2021

The truth is, I studied to become a Celebrant because I knew that marriage equality was going to be available in Australia. I grew up to believe all people are equal and really wanted to be a part of that change.

Today I’m thrilled to be able to help ALL couples create the kind of ceremonies that are meaningful to them. Usually, that’s one with a relaxed, fun vibe and probably a few happy tears thrown in!

I grew up in a time when having an LGBT family member was something you were supposed to feel ashamed about. So when my parents both came out, when I was a young girl, it was a very a difficult time. As a family we went through a lot, but honesty and love prevailed and we've now arrived in a time (and luckily a country) where it's OK to have different family set up and I am full of pride at how ours turned out. We are an incredibly close, big tribe. My parents are Grandparents to six and we offer each other only support, love and acceptance.

Becoming a marriage celebrant was something I decided to do after struggling through a cancer diagnosis. (I am now cancer free.) I wanted to find a career that would push me whilst also celebrate marriage equality, which is obviously close to my heart.

My personal goal is to leave every person at every wedding feeling like it was the best ceremony they've ever been a part of and ready to celebrate! The role brings together skills in writing and public speaking, honed during the ten years I ran my own business as a PR consultant.

As an MC & Public speaker I pride myself on being able to engage, entertain and inspire audiences whilst shining a light on their event.

I live happily in Melbourne with my beautiful husband, gorgeous two boys and adorable Australian Shepherd, Pepper!

I feel very honoured to have an incredible bunch of testimonials from my beautiful clients on Google & Facebook with comments like “The ceremony was the best part of our day!” OR “All of our guests loved it and thought you’d known us for years!” OR “Can we do it all over again?”

That’s when I’m reminded that I do have the best job in the world!

Other things about me: I'm always up for a chat, I'm all about a good gin & tonic (not fussy about which gin!) I used to be an amazing cake baker but now get my creative hit from writing love stories for my weddings.

I am currently working on a brand new funeral business and helping families honour loved ones in a way which is modern, affordable, ethical and deeply respectful. And of course will also be a place of acceptance to the LGBTIQ community. Watch this space!
